Edinburgh is the most popular location searched for by property hunters across the UK with 145% more enquiries than anywhere else over the last 12 months.
Property portal Zoopla put together that study and revealed that south London’s Croydon came in second with 104% more interest.

The results are based on an analysis of email enquiries that were sent to estate agents highlighting specific interest.
London came in third with 77% more enquiries than average, followed by Glasgow with 67%, Leicester with 56% and Birmingham with 55%.
Furthermore, the research also had a closer look at the most popular search terms. Buyers in Edinburgh and Croydon were keen on homes with a garage while those looking in London had a particular interest in “freehold” property.
Across searches for Scotland, a coastal view seemed important considering the most popular keyword was “sea”. In Wales, a lot of outdoor space seems to be what people are looking for with the word “acres” being the most searched keyword.
When only looking at London, the most sought after borough was Barking and Dagenham as homes here received 168% more interest than London’s average property listing. The area is followed by Bexley and Hounslow with 43% and 40% more interest respectively.
“This new set of figures gives us valuable insight into which areas of the British property market are most in demand. It’s interesting to see Edinburgh outranking London, which perhaps reflects a cooling in the property market for central London,” said Lawrence Hall of Zoopla.
“It’s no surprise that we see high demand for properties in the outer London suburbs, such as Croydon, as they prove to be an affordable alternative for buyers.”
